Positions

What does genetic evidence show about Native American ancestry, and how does it bear on the Book of Mormon?

McClellan argues that the demographic history described in the Book of Mormon would disrupt the conditions needed to preserve and identify a small founding group’s genetic signature. He concludes that recovery of Lehi’s or Mulek’s DNA is improbable and that, without an identifiable founding signature, the narrative does not supply a testable population-genetic hypothesis.

the Book of Mormon does not present a testable hypothesis in terms of human population genetics.
